Define Ayurveda

Ayurveda, the word being the combination of Ayur and Veda means as a whole, "the complete knowledge for long life". Ayurveda is a medicinal system native to India. Ancient texts indicates Ayurveda was in practice during  Vedic period. The Suśruta Saṃhitā and the Charaka Saṃhitā, considered as the foundation work on Ayurveda, information contained in these books are collected over a period of hundreds of years. Today remedies derived from these texts are in use and considered as alternative medicine. Like every system there are some concerns about some of the medicinal preparations of Ayurveda  since these contains traces of mercury and led. Some researchers raises concern over the possibility of chemical compounds presents in plants which could be dangerous to some people.
